Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy exposes the body to extremely cold temperatures for short periods of time, usually around 1-3 minutes. This procedure stimulates the body’s circulation in order to protect itself from the cold. As the blood rushes to your core, it becomes highly oxygenated and helps lessen inflammation in certain parts of the body. Among its numerous benefits, cryotherapy may help with lessening pain, increasing your metabolic rate, and reducing swelling. The improved circulation has helped certain clients by reducing arthritic symptoms and chronic pain due to joint issues. All of our cryotherapy clients can agree that the procedure boosts energy levels and contributes to a sense of rejuvenation and wellbeing.
What Should I Expect in a Cryotherapy Session?
During a whole body cryotherapy session, you’ll step into our state-of-the-art cryosauna and stand with your head and neck exposed. In order to get our temperatures well below zero, our cryosaunas use liquid nitrogen and gently brush cool air over the surface of your skin. Although the experience is certainly brisk, it is not a painful or uncomfortably cold procedure. Many find it invigorating and liken it to standing in a large commercial freezer for a brief period of time.
How Cold does Cryotherapy Get?
We offer three levels of cryotherapy. Depending on how well you put up with the cold and what your goals are for therapy, cryotherapy sessions can last between 1 to 3 minutes. Maximum cryotherapy temperatures reach -110°C to -130°C. Temperatures gradually decrease to the desired level within the first minute and a half of the session.
What Should I Bring to a Cryotherapy Session?
All you need for a cryotherapy session is - you! We provide you with thermal socks, booties, and a pair of gloves to protect your hands and feet. We also offer full length robes, but you are welcome to bring your own.
Here are some tips for a safe, invigorating session:
- No Jewelry: Remove all jewelry or body piercings below the neck. The metal will cool faster than your skin. Can’t remove the piercing? Cover it or tape it up.
- No Lotion: Lotion may freeze on your skin, making the experience uncomfortable.
- No Excess Moisture: Just got done exercising? Make sure all excess moisture is toweled off of your skin. We’ll make sure you’re good to go before your appointment.
For optimum results, we advise exposing as much skin as possible to cryotherapy. Men can wear underwear, shorts, or anything in order to protect private areas. Women are free to wear undergarments or a bathing suit; however, wearing nothing is an option as well.
How Long does a Cryotherapy Session Last?
Generally, our cryotherapy sessions last from 1-3 minutes. In order to give you the maximum benefit, we set all times at 3 minutes initially, but are present throughout the session should you need to stop short or alter the temperature. Our advanced Impact Cryosaunas are controlled by a touchscreen panel and can be customized to your needs and preferences.
What Does Cryotherapy Feel Like?
Most of our clients find cryotherapy to be rejuvenating, invigorating, and refreshing. Your skin will be cold after the session, but will get back to normal within 10-15 minutes. Many experience an increased appetite due to boosted metabolic rates and a “runner’s high” that gives clarity of thought, boosted energy levels, and a sense of wellbeing.
How Often Should I Use Cryotherapy?
Your cryotherapy schedule will depend entirely on your therapy goals and your body’s response to the method. We offer a variety of sessions and packages to accommodate your needs.
We recommend that you try cryotherapy two or three times within five to six days and then keep track of how your body responds to the therapy. You will be able to determine a good schedule for yourself.
